Vesak Day Celebrations @ Maha Bodhi School 2026
Vesak Day Celebrations @ Maha Bodhi School 2026
Maha Bodhi School commemorated Vesak Day 2026 through a vibrant series of activities that brought students and staff together in reflection, celebration and learning.
The Vesak Day celebrations began with the Vesak Day Observance Ceremony on 15 May 2026, where students and staff reflected on the values of gratitude, compassion and mindfulness. The Observance Ceremony included the offering of flowers to Lord Buddha by Venerable Seck Kwang Phing and the School Leaders, as well as the symbolic Bathing of the Buddha Ceremony. This was followed by the recitation of the Heart Sutra by Venerable Seck Kwang Phing and a sharing on the significance of Vesak Day.
From 15 to 26 May 2026, Buddhist staff and students participated in the Bathing of Lord Buddha Ceremony, providing opportunities for quiet reflection and the cultivation of mindfulness and gratitude.
As part of the school’s Vesak Day celebrations, Primary 1 to Primary 6 students took part in the Vesak Day Drawing and Colouring Competition — a Character and Citizenship Education (Mother Tongue) initiative that promotes the appreciation of values through creative expression. Through their artwork, students expressed school values such as respect, resilience, integrity, compassion and excellence.
Complementing these activities, students also explored the origins and traditions of Vesak Day (卫塞节的由来和习俗) through Bodhi DNA (菩提 DNA), the school’s signature SAP programme that promotes an appreciation of Chinese culture and heritage. This pre-assembly programme deepened students’ understanding of the significance of Vesak Day.
Through these meaningful Vesak Day learning experiences, students learnt to embody values of gratitude, kindness and compassion in their daily lives, reflecting Maha Bodhi School’s holistic, balanced and values-driven culture anchored in character, mindfulness and care for others.
