Promoting Joy of Learning
The Mathematics Department seeks to instill joy in learning Mathematics through play, logical thinking games, and puzzles. To foster positive learning dispositions while strengthening pupils’ problem-solving and logical thinking skills, a Math Corner featuring logical thinking games and puzzles was launched during the Math Fiesta in Term 2, 2025. From 2026 onwards, pupils regularly utilize the Math Corner during recess, providing opportunities for informal learning and exploration. Teachers also integrate games into classroom lessons to reinforce mathematical concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and promote collaboration. Through these experiences, pupils demonstrate greater enthusiasm for Mathematics, strengthen their logical thinking and perseverance, and develop positive attitudes towards challenges and learning through play.

Experiential Learning Week 2026 (Semester 1)
During the Experiential Learning Week (ELW) in Term 2 Week 9, the Mathematics Department organised a series of engaging Math activities for students to learn through play both in the classroom and at the school courtyard.
A Sudoku Challenge was organised for Primary 1 to Primary 6 pupils during recesses, alongside a variety of interesting Mathematics-related games made available for free play with their schoolmates. Parent Volunteers were present to support the activities by managing the Sudoku Challenge and guiding pupils on how to play the games whenever they had queries.
The participation was overwhelming, with many pupils actively engaged in the activities. Pupils were observed enjoying the games while thinking strategically and logically as they worked towards solving problems or competing with their peers. The joy of learning was clearly evident as pupils collaborated, persevered, and applied their thinking skills meaningfully through play.
This experiential learning opportunity also helped to foster positive attitudes towards Mathematics by making learning enjoyable, interactive, and engaging for pupils.
A Conceptual Approach to Problem Solving
Equipping pupils with the skills and heuristics for mathematical problem solving is fundamental to the learning of mathematics. The Mathematics Department has designed a series of problem-solving activities and heuristics worksheets that will systematically enable the pupils to be equipped with the different heuristics and model drawing skills for problem solving.
Talent Development Mathematics Programmes
Excellence 2000 (E2K) Mathematics
The E2K Math Programme is designed to enrich the learning experiences of selected pupils who have demonstrated aptitude for mathematics. The E2K Math Programme aims to foster independence in mathematical thinking skills and the love for mathematics through activities such as stories, games and puzzles. Various strategies in problem solving will be explored and higher order thinking skills will be applied to formulate solutions and communicate mathematical reasoning.
