International Friendship Day (IFD)
International Friendship Day (IFD) is a day dedicated to the understanding of Singapore’s relations with neighbouring countries and beyond. It aims to sensitise our children towards the geo-political realities inherent in Singapore, as well as nurture in our students the spirit of friendship and collaboration among different people.
The theme for IFD 2018 is Celebrating the ASEAN Community. This year, we are privileged to have two schools, Pembangunan Jaya Primary School and Sekolah Indonesia (Singapore), joined us in the commemoration of IFD. Pupils from Pembangunan Jaya Primary School joined our Primary 5 pupils for a 3-days school immersion programme. Our guests also presented traditional Indonesian dances, songs and poetry recital at the school assembly and recess programmes.
During recess, there were game booths for all students to deepen their understanding of the relations that we share with other countries. The games mainly focused on enhancing understanding about the various ASEAN countries and emphasized on the importance of friendship. Special thanks to our parent volunteers who helped to manage the fun-filled games booth. Pembangunan Jaya Primary School teachers also set-up an area to share with us the traditional Batik Sarong pieces.
It was a very meaningful and memorable week long experience for the teachers and the pupils!
